Boys Junior Varsity Baseball, Boys Varsity Baseball · Knights Fall 1-0 to Berkeley, Hiott Tosses 1 Hitter

The Stratford Knights Varsity Baseball team fell 1-0 to Berkeley in what turned out to be quite the early season pitcher’s dual. Stratford’s Eddie Hiott pitched a gem, going 6 innings. He surrendered 1 hit to the Stags and struck out 7 batters. The lone Berkeley run came courtesy of two Stratford errors in the bottom of the 5th inning. After recording the first out of the fifth, the second Stags batter reached after being hit by a pitch. After back to back throwing errors the Stags lifted the ball into center field, the runner from third tagged narrowly beating the throw and tag to put them up 1-0. Hiott would get the next Berkeley batter to ground out, ending the threat, but the run would prove to be costly. After pitching the perfect 6th, the Knights had one more chance to even the score. Isaac Greer led off the inning with a strikeout, followed by a flyout to center by Jamison Mobbs. Justin Walker would then reach on an infield single. After stealing second, the Knights had their opportunity to scratch across the tying run but the Berkeley pitching proved to be up to the task, retiring Asher Smith with a strikeout. The loss drops the Knights to 2-1 in tournament play, and they now await the result of other games to determine who they will face tomorrow. The game will be played at Berkeley.
