The Stratford Knights Varsity football team traveled to James Island Friday night, and left with their first win of the year. The Knights, improve to 1-0 in the region and 1-3 on the year. They will take on Wando at home next Friday night.

The Knights got off to a fast start and never looked back offensively, piling up 590 yards of total offense. Junior Travis Lott led the Knights passing game, completing 22 of 32 passes for 307 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for 16 yards and a score. Junior Akiel Wright was Lott’s leading receiver on the night, hauling in four catches for 139 yards and a touchdown. Junior Ryan Robinson and sophomore Sincere Brown also had multiple catches for the Knights, with Robinson catching a touchdown and Brown returning a kickoff for a touchdown. Robinson also added 82 yards on the ground with a score. Seniors Andrew Skinner and Johnathan Boags each had three catches for the Knights, for 36 and 23 yards respectively.

Junior Mario Anderson proved to once again be a dynamic player in the run game. The junior rushed for 223 yards on 17 carries for two scores, with his longest run coming on a 73 yard dash down the right side. He now has 544 yards for the year with 7 touchdowns.

Defensively the Knights were able to come away with key stops and takeaways to show improvement from the first few weeks of the season. Senior EJ Jackson set up the first turnover by forcing a fumble, that was recovered by Junior Zach Lehmer. Jackson would later intercept a James Island pass to give the offense good field position. Junior Brandon Polite would lead the team in takeaways for the Knights, intercepting two passes with one coming in the final minute of the game to seal the victory for the Knights.
