Darlington SC – The Stratford Cross Country team traveled to Darlington on Saturday to compete in the Darlington XC Carnival. The meet featured several 5A teams from around the state that the Knights will face in the post season.
The varsity girls started the day at 9am with a fast pace. The Lady Knights called up several of their JV runners to varsity for this race and they rose to the occasion. Sydney Palmer led the lady Knights to the finish with a time of 20:38 and 3rd overall. Kaelan Peirce was close behind with a time of 20:27 and finishing in 7th place. Olivia Diaz’s rapid speed brought her to the finish line in a time of 23:40 and finishing top 60 in the race. Nikaris Butts and Sandra Weston rounded out the scoring with times of 25:05 and 25:46. Caroline Hankins and Evelyn Sanchez brought in the team with times of 27:11 and 28:46. The Lady Knights finished 7th as a team.
The Varsity Boys were led to overall victory by Owen Smith placing 5th overall with a time of 17:17. Kyle Strickland just missed cracking the top ten and finished 11th place with a time 17:39. Hunter Calvert came in with a strong kick and finished in 18th place with a time of 18:11. Ryland Kowalksi held off hard charging rivals for a 23rd place finish in a time of 18:26. Nathan Cox finished up the scoring with a place of 32 and 18:38 on the clock. Amarion Martin(41st, 18:52) and George Mayer( 98, 20:34) were the final finishers for the Varsity Knights. The Knights took home the overall team win with a score of 89 over AC Flora, Fort Dorchester, and James Island!
8th grader Ben Taylor claimed his second JV victory of the season with a time of 18:48. Sam Wittman was close behind for a second overall finish in a time of 19:20. Freshman David Thompson showed his speed placing 5th overall in a speedy time of 19:29. The other young freshmen Chris Hankins was close behind placing 16th in a time of 20:14. Evan Cole held off some hard charging region competition placing 23rd and 20:40. Also competing for the JV Knights were Bobby Gibson (29th, 21:03), Hunter Heron (38, 21:21), Matthew Slaymen(53, 21:43), and Brogan Kotowski (27:03). The JV Knights took the overall team victory scoring 47 points over James Island, Heathwood Hall, and Fort Dorchester!
