The Stratford Baseball team saw some new faces in the lineup Thursday night against Goose Creek, but were able to find a way to pick up a hard fought win over the Gators. Josh Davis got the start on the mound for the Knights. He went seven innings, while giving up five runs, two earned. He struck out three Gator batters. Dylan Stewart came on to pitch a scoreless eighth to earn the save, striking out two.
The Knights found themselves trailing 3-0 after two innings, but got things going in the fifth. The inning would start with A.J. Bryant reaching on an error. NIck Lott would sacrifice him over to second. After a second out the Knights would rally. Stewart would walk to put runners on first and second, followed by Vito Dorio reaching on an error to load the bases. Travis Lott would then single, scoring Bryant; making it a 3-1 game. Davis would then hit a hard ground ball and reach on an error scoring Dorio and bringing the Knights within one. Sophomore Mason Lord would come to the plate and double scoring Lott to give the Knights a 4-3 lead. Carter Smith would follow with a single, scoring Davis to give the Knights a two run advantage.
Goose Creek would respond in the bottom of the sixth, scoring two runs to tie the game at five. In the top of the eighth inning, Nick Lott would walk with one out. Matthew Cudd would be hit by a pitch, followed by Dylan Stewart walking to load the bases. Vito Dorio then lined a double to the right center gap, scoring Nick Lott. to give the Knights a 6-5 lead which would prove to be the game winner.
Stratford improves to 12-7 and finish in 3rd place of Region 7-AAAAA with a 6-4 record. The Knights will return to action on Saturday, traveling to Spirit Communications Park to take on White Knoll. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 AM.
Over Spring Break the Knights will play in the Hanahan Invitational Tournament.
