Berkeley County School District (BCSD) has postponed the first day of school to Thursday, August 15, giving teachers and staff more time to prepare and students an extra day of summer break. This decision comes after recent severe weather and flooding prevented access to school buildings for three days, disrupting traditional classroom and school preparation time for teachers and staff. “We value the dedication of our teachers and staff in preparing classrooms and schools, and this additional day will allow them to better prepare to receive more than 38,000 students on Thursday,” said BCSD Superintendent Dr. Anthony Dixon. “Last week, teachers completed virtual professional development and training so now they can focus on classroom and school needs Monday through Wednesday.” School and district offices will be open regular hours, and extracurricular activities and athletic programs will also operate according to their normal schedule. Information and schedules for school specific meet the teacher and grade specific orientation days have been shared with families by school leaders. Dixon added, “We understand that disruptions in schedules are not easy for anyone so we appreciate the understanding of our parents and community as we work to ensure that the first day is the best it can be for students and teachers on Thursday.” Any weather day adjustments necessary as a result of this calendar change will be reviewed and communicated, if needed, at a later date.

Updated 24-25 Parking Pass Information: Mrs. Coxwell will be available at the following times and locations: Tuesday August 13th 1-4pm in the main office. Wednesday August 14th-Friday August 16th in the cafeteria during all lunches. Parking passes will be given out at a first come first serve basis. Spaces are limited. BCSD transitions to virtual operations today, August 9 Due to unexpected flash flooding resulting in numerous road closures and impassable road conditions, Berkeley County School District (BCSD) schools and offices will transition to virtual operations Friday, August 9. All extracurricular activities, athletics, and school programs are currently suspended Friday, August 9. BCSD leaders urge staff to stay off of the roads. In collaboration with county and municipal leaders, BCSD will reassess conditions Friday and throughout the weekend and provide updates, as appropriate, concerning potential access to schools and offices. Below you will find some important information about the next few days and the beginning of the 24-25 school year. -The Facts and Fees event for Sophomores and Juniors scheduled for Tuesday August 6th was cancelled and will not be rescheduled. However, on Friday August 9th, Goose Creek High School will make all student schedules viewable through powerschool. Students will receive their chromebooks and other school-related materials during the first week of school. The schedule change form will also be available on Friday August 9th. -Freshman Orientation has been rescheduled for Tuesday August 13th from 9-12 pm. Students can arrive and start checking in at 8:30 am. Please refer to the BCSD Schools App for bus route information, as buses will be running for this event.

2024-2025 GCHS Freshman Orientation: Friday August 9th 9:30-12:00pm Check in starts at 9:00 am in the Auditorium. Students will be able to meet other GCHS 9th graders, as well as teachers and upper classes that will be there to help them navigate their first year of high school. All attendees will be taken on a school tour to ensure they are successful at finding their classes on the first day. Attendees will have the opportunity to pick up their schedules during the event. Chromebooks for freshman will be distributed Aug 14-16th. Students will be able to learn about GCHS Clubs and Organizations while interacting with their peers and getting involved in the school culture. This event is intended for students only. Parents/guardians may drop their students off at the front of the school. GCH Busses will be running their routes to and from school during this event. Senior Facts and Fees will be held on August 5th from 9-12 pm and 1-3 pm in the GCH main lobby and media center. Senior dues are $80.00 until 12/20/24 and $100 after. Pay with cash or check at this event or online. Note: Online payment includes a processing fee. $10 discount if paid in-person on 8/5! Parking passes are $40.00. Senior photos will be handled differently this year! Jostens will take ALL senior’s traditional photos (drape and tux) during the school day on August 21, 2024 for the yearbook and purchase. Families in need of "casual" senior photos will need to contact a local photography company directly.

Summer Attendance Recovery School registration will be held this Thursday at the GCHS front office. This session is intended for students who FA'd a course during the 23-24 spring semester. The cost is $10 per hour, per course.

As a way of continuing to promote child nutrition and adding to the many celebrations capping the end of the school year, Berkeley County School District’s Office of Child Nutrition Services will launch a special giveaway next week (May 20–24) that will offer some big prizes. Elementary, middle and high school students eating lunch and/or breakfast next week will be entered into a drawing for prizes that include, but are not limited to: *iPads *Wireless earbuds/headphones *Underwater cameras *Projectors *Action cameras *Bluetooth speakers Students will receive one entry into the drawing for each meal they eat. Winners will be drawn at random, and those who eat multiple meals will obviously have an increased chance of winning.
